Video: 1973 World Series Introductions

I don’t know why exactly, but I love player introductions before big games. It’s my favorite part of All-Star games — when the Mets players are announced to cheers, boos or worse, apathy.

Here is a particularly good introduction ceremony before Game 1 of the 1973 World Series between the Mets and A’s in Oakland. The highlights are the very long standing ovation Willie Mays received as he returned to the Bay Area for the final time, and Hank Aaron, at the time one short of Babe Ruth’s home run record, throwing out the first ball. Oh, and did I mention that Jim Nabors sang the national anthem?
