Video: Gil Hodges, “The Quiet Man”
This is an excerpt from a documentary called “Gil Hodges: The Quiet Man.” Hodges’s death was a huge blow to the Mets franchise; he was shaping up to be the manager for the long haul. Had he lived, perhaps Tom Seaver, who idolized Hodges, would not have been traded. Perhaps those awful late-1970s teams would not have been so bad. There really is no measuring what the absence of Gil Hodges meant to the Mets.
