Checking in on 2015 Mets Payroll

We have not done a Mets payroll check in a while. With the team settling with most of its arbitration players, now seems as good a time as any.

Bartolo Colon: $11,000,000 (actual)
Jonathon Niese: $7,050,000 (actual)
Dillon Gee: $5,300,000 (actual)
Zack Wheeler: $550,000 (est)
Matt Harvey: $550,000 (est)
Jacob deGrom: $550,000 (est)

Bobby Parnell: $3,700,000 (actual)
Jenrry Mejia: $2,500,000 (est)
Josh Edgin: $550,000 (est)
Vic Black: $550,000 (est)
Jeurys Familia: $550,000 (est)
Carlos Torres: $550,000 (est)
1 reliever: $550,000 (est)

Travis d’Arnaud: $550,000 (est)
Anthony Recker: $550,000 (est)

Lucas Duda: $4,000,000 (est)
Daniel Murphy: $8,000,000 (actual)
Wilmer Flores: $550,000 (est)
David Wright: $20,000,000 (actual)
Eric Campbell: $550,000 (est)
Ruben Tejada: $1,880,000 (actual)

Curtis Granderson: $16,000,000 (actual)

Michael Cuddyer: $8,500,000 (actual)
Juan Lagares: $550,000 (est)
John Mayberry: $1,450,000 (actual)
Matt den Dekker/Kirk Nieuwenhuis: $550,000 (est)

The actual salaries come to $82,880,000. The estimated figure is $14,200,000 for a grand total of 97,080,000. That’s actually a couple of million less than my previous estimate. Still though, the Mets payroll will be closer to $90 million when it is all said and done. Remember, the Mets had an $85 million payroll last year, and there is no way they will increase it by that much.

Dillon Gee is almost certainly a goner, and that will get the Mets closer to that $90 million. I am still stunned that Ruben Tejada is on this team, and at nearly $2 million. That is money better spent elsewhere. It just shows how fearful Sandy Alderson is of just handing the shortstop job to Wilmer Flores. When your safety net is Ruben Tejada, you know you are in trouble!
