Jacob deGrom to All-Star Game; Jeurys Familia Snubbed
Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom was selected Monday night to the be on the National League team for the All-Star game. Jeurys Familia was snubbed.
deGrom is sixth in the league with a 2.30 ERA. He is also 8-6 with 102 strikeouts. It is his first All-Star game.
Familia, though, was certainly deserving as well — tied for fourth in saves with 22, and a miniscule 1.16 ERA.
He fell victim to the rule that every team must be represented. Relievers Jonathan Papelbon and former Met Francisco Rodriguez were the lone representatives of their respective teams. Both are having fine years, but Familia is having a better one.
Familia is on the ballot for the final spot, so Mets fans still have a chance to send him to the game.
The All-Star game will be played in Cincinnati next Tuesday.
