Sandy Alderson: There is No Trade

It was a strange end to one of the strangest nights in Mets history. Sandy Alderson said there is no trade for Carlos Gomez.

To recap, during Wednesday night’s game, word spread via Twitter that the Mets and Brewers agreed to a trade to send Gomez to New York for Zack Wheeler and Wilmer Flores. Flores played the entire game, earning a nice ovation when he came to bat in the seventh inning for what fans thought was his final Met at bat. He was crying as he ran onto the field for the eighth. And for some reason, he remained in the game. Terry Collins said afterwards that he had no idea what was going on.

Well, it turns out there was no reason to remove him from the game because there is no deal. Alderson said after the game that “there is no deal. A trade has not and will not transpire.”

So Flores got put through all of that heartache for nothing, Someone is to blame for this. The media which reports things without confirmation? Team sources who leaked the proposed deal? Sandy Alderson? Who knows.

All we know is that it was a crazy night. Unfortunately, it’s business as usual in Flushing.
