How About Marcel Ozuna in Center Field?

It is no secret the Mets will be in the market for a center fielder this off-season. How about Marcel Ozuna?

Marcel Ozuna would look good in blue and orange.

The Cardinals free agent hit 29 home runs with 89 RBIs this past season. But he hit just .243, the lowest of his career (he is a .273 career hitter). His best year came in his final season in Miami in 2017 — 37/124/.312. Even if he never achieves those lofty numbers again, he is still a solid hitter who would add to the Mets lineup. And he turns 29 years old in November — not too old for a multi-year deal.

While Ozuna played mostly center for the Marlins. he has been used exclusively as a left fielder in his two seasons in St. Louis. Can he still play center? If so, I think he would look good patrolling Citi Field.

As far as money, if the Mets could get him for something like a four-year, $60 million contract, I think he would be worth it. If he goes for far more (which is possible), then the Mets would likely pass.

Another target is Starling Marte. The Pirates will likely pick up his $12.5 million option, so the Mets would have to trade for him. Do the Pirates want to deal him? What would they want in return? What do I look like, an expert on the Pirates?

In any case, the Mets need a center fielder. In a thin market, these could be the best available options.
