Beltre, Mauer, Helton Elected to Hall of Fame

The BBWAA announced Tuesday night it has elected Adrian Beltre, Joe Mauer and Todd Helton to the Hall of Fame. I agree with one, indifferent to another and against one more.

Beltre, obviously. He was named on 95% of the ballots. Todd Helton received 79% of the vote. I’ve always gone back and forth on him, so I don’t care either way. But I don’t consider Mauer, who just got in with 76%, a Hall of Famer. He wasn’t a catcher for the second half of his career, therefore his stats just don’t measure up in my opinion.

Former Met closer Billy Wagner fell five votes short on his ninth try. Brief Met Gary Sheffield finished with nearly 64% on his 10th and final time on the ballot. And former Met and current cheater Carlos Beltran got 57%.

More on David Wright when I find out.
