The Mets, wearing those crummy black jerseys (hopefully for the final time) in honor of John Franco, who was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame Sunday, jumped out in front early — Andres Torres doubled in the first, David Wright walked and Lucas Duda singled to right to score Torres.

In the third Jonathon Niese singled with two outs and Kirk Nieuwenhuis followed with a two-run homer to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Mets scored three more runs in the sixth inning on a Kirk Nieuwenhuis single and a triple by Torres.

Niese pitched six scoreless innings and stuck out a career high ten batters before giving way to the bullpen, which finally allowed a run to the Cards.

Mets win 6-1.
