Mets Sign Omar Quintanilla
Sandy Alderson’s off season of acquiring All-Star caliber players continued on Thursday with word that he has signed Omar Quintanilla to a minor league deal. If you’re keeping score, that is Collin Cowgill, Andrew Brown and now Quintanilla who will bring the Mets to respectability.
Quintanilla was actually with the Mets for a short time last season. He filled in when the rest of the middle infielders were injured. He was halfway decent, but he was sent to the Orioles to make room on the roster for Jason Bay. Yeah, that was smart.
Omar Quintanilla will compete for a backup infield spot with someone named Brandon Hicks. Alderson was able to steal him from the A’s last November in another of his heralded moves.
Sandy Alderson is one shrewd operator.
