Game Recaps

Reyes, Beltran Power Mets Over Cardinals

So all that was missing from the Mets lineup were two All-Stars. Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran were back Tuesday night, going a combined five-for-eight as the Mets beat the Cardinals 4-2.

Beltran was three-for-three with two doubles and two walks in his first game back from flu-like symptoms. But it was Reyes who was truly amazing. He was out for two and a half weeks, and he walked back onto the field and didn’t miss a beat with yet another multi-hit game.

Dillon Gee looks like he is back on his game, allowing two runs in seven innings before handing it to the new-look bullpen. Jason Isringhausen picked up his first save since 2008 — the team’s first save opportunity since the Mets dealt K-Rod over the All-Star break.

With David Wright, who is tearing it up in his rehab assignment, due back on Friday, perhaps the Mets have some life after all.
