Neil Walker broke the news to the media and Mets fans Thursday that he will have season-ending surgery on his back. Not only is this a setback for the Mets Wild Card push, it could also cost Walker tens millions of dollars. He was in line for a nice payday after this season, but now he will likely have to settle for a short-term deal in order to prove his back is sound. Will the Mets, who already have two orthopedic cases in David Wright and Lucas Duda (assuming he is even tendered a contract), take a chance on a third? We’ll find out in the winter.
