The Mets are Back, Right?
After dropping three straight series, the Mets returned to their winning ways, sweeping the Orioles out of Citi Field in a brief two-game series. So they’re back, right?
On Tuesday Bartolo Colon improved to 5-0 as the Mets beat Baltimore 3-2 in an efficient game that took just two hours and 19 minutes. On Wednesday it was Jacob deGrom who topped the O’s 5-1.
Obviously the pitching was stellar — both starters struck out nine batters. But perhaps more importantly, the offense looked better. Daniel Murphy and Kevin Plawecki both got timely hits to account for the Mets runs on Tuesday. And Wednesday it was a virtual explosion with home runs from Curtis Granderson and Dilson Herrera.
At 18-10 and with a four game lead in the NL East, the Mets have a chance to get even fatter this weekend when take on the pitiful Phillies (the Pitifillies?) in a three-game series down the Turnpike.
The hitting is easy in Citizens Bank Park, so this could be a very exciting series that the Mets must sweep. There’s no reason they can’t.
