Kirk Nieuwenhuis to DL, Michael Conforto Back
Michael Conforto’s demotion to Las Vegas lasted a day — he is back with the big club after the Mets placed Kirk Nieuwenhuis on the disabled list with a pinched nerve in his upper back.
Conforto was sent down to make room for Yoenis Cespedes, but was told to stick around just in case Nieuwenhuis did not respond to treatment.
According to ESPN New York, Terry Collins said Conforto will not just be a bench warmer as long as he remains in Flushing — he needs to play regularly.
Of course, that may not last long because Michael Cuddyer could be back from the disabled list next weekend. If that’s the case, we may not see Kirk Nieuwenhuis anytime soon, either. There is just no room for him on the Mets following the new acquisitions.
