Jeurys Familia Returning to Mets

In something of a surprise move, it appears Jeurys Familia is returning to the Mets. The deal is reported to be three years, $30 million.

We all knew the Mets were in the market for another high end reliever, but not many people thought it would be Familia. After all, Familia is a closer, and the Mets just obtained one of the best in the business in Edwin Diaz, at no small price. So Familia must have been sold on the idea of being a set-up man.

While Familia was very good for the Mets, he also had his very bad moments — does three blown saves in the World Series ring a bell (although not all of them were really his fault)? And allowing the homer in the 2016 Wild Card game?

It is nice to have another quality arm in the bullpen, but I wish it had been someone new, someone who might have  a bit higher ceiling than Jeurys Familia. David Robertson? Andrew Miller? They are older but have a solid track record of success.

But overall, this is a good signing. I just wonder how much more money Brodie Van Wagenen has available to spend.
