Mets to Sign Daisuke Matsuzaka
Well, this comes out of nowhere — the Mets will reportedly sign Daisuke Matsuzaka
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com writes that “he is expected to go right to the big leagues with the Mets.” The Mets certainly have holes in the rotation after losing Jeremy Hefner and Jenrry Mejia to injury, so it can’t hurt to have Dice-K for the rest of the season.
After dealing with injuries during the final two years of his big contract with the Red Sox, Daisuke Matsuzaka signed with the Indians in the off season. He has spent the year in Triple-A, compiling a record of 5-8 with a 3.92 ERA. He was released earlier this week.
Who knows how much Dice-K has left in the tank, but he can’t be any worse than Carlos Torres, who was slated to get a spot start on Friday. It’s not clear yet if Daisuke Matsuzaka will get that start now, or who will be sent down to make room for him.
