Daniel Murphy Beats Up Mets as Nats Sweep

Daniel Murphy is making sure the Mets regret letting him go to the rival Nationals, hitting two home runs as the Nats swept the Mets.

Murphy hit a solo shot in the second to get the Nats on the board. Then he topped it off with a two-run homer in the eighth to extend the lead to 4-0.

It turned out to be huge because James Loney hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth to cut the lead to 4-2. With two outs, Kelly Johnson doubled. Brandon Nimmo represented the potential tying run at the plate, but he struck out to end the game.

Logan Verrett got the spot start and took the loss despite pitching reasonably well. Max Scherzer shut down the Mets for 7.1 innings, allowing just two hits.

Mets lose 4-2 and now have to face the powerhouse Cubs.
