Bobby Parnell has Ligament Tear in Elbow
Now we know why Bobby Parnell pitched so poorly on Opening Day — he has a ligament tear in his elbow.
The Mets revealed the news in a series of tweets at around noon Eastern time on Tuesday (read from the bottom):
It is unclear whether Parnell had any pain before the game or at any time during Spring Training or if he injured himself during Monday’s game. But it is clear that if Bobby Parnell needs the Tommy John surgery, he will be out for the rest of 2014.
With Parnell out for at least two weeks, Jose Valverde is the likely candidate to step in as closer. He was the only reliever who had a good Opening Day, and he has experience in that role.
The misery just never ends for the Mets.
