Jacob deGrom Wins Rookie of the Year

Jacob deGrom has been named the National League Rookie of the Year Monday night, easily beating out Billy Hamilton for the award.

deGrom received 26 first place votes. Hamilton got only four

Hamilton was the early favorite but deGrom came on quietly. And when he struck out those first eight batters in that game, it sealed the deal. Again, I would like to point out that I may have been the first person to write about his Rookie of the Year chances. Go ahead, find an earlier mention!

Overall deGrom was 9-6 with a 2.69 ERA with 144 strikeouts in 140.1 innings. He made 22 starts.

Jacob deGrom is the fifth Met to win Rookie of the Year; Tom Seaver, Jon Matlack, Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden were the others.
