Pathetic: Mets Shut Out by Cubs Again

It’s doubtful it can get any worse. For the second straight night, the Mets were shut out by the Cubs, 2-0. This time they made us suffer even more, making us sit through 11 innings of futility.

In addition to hitting, Mets had trouble on basepaths during Wednesday’s loss.

Bartolo Colon was the latest victim, hurling seven shutout innings. At least he was long gone by the time Carlos Torres blew the game in extra innings and did not have to suffer the loss. It was a nice bounce back for Colon, who has pitched poorly of late and saw his ERA balloon to 4.89. He lowered it to 4.55.

The Mets got runners to first and third with two outs in the bottom of the 11th but Kevin Plawecki struck out to end the game.

But back to the bats. They were just pitiful. On the bright side, they managed seven hits, more than double the measly three they collected the night before. Of course, they had two more innings to do it.

So the Mets have now played 20 innings in this series and have not scored a run. At this point, who cares about being swept? How about just scoring at least one run in the series finale?

  • mets ownership will not spend money to bring in players. As we watch nightly the embarrassment of not being able to score any runs it’s hard to fathom that management makes no moves. The current lineup is A group of underachieving minor League type players.
Maybe David Wright doesn’t want to come back LOL.
