Sandy Alderson Hints Mets Career Could be Over
In making his announcement that he is taking a leave of absence to treat cancer, Sandy Alderson hinted that his time running the Mets could be over.
“With respect to the future, I would say two things,” Alderson said. “One is — notwithstanding the good prognosis — my health is an uncertainty going forward. And secondly, if I were to look at it on the merits, I’m not sure coming back is warranted.”
In his usual fashion, Alderson’s comment was cryptic at best. He later clarified by saying “I think I made it clear that one factor is health, another factor is merit.”
Few Mets fans would argue. But you’ve got to think if Alderson does want to come back, the Wilpons would take him whether he has merited it or not.
