Ralph Kiner Finalist for Hall of Fame as Broadcaster

The late great Ralph Kiner is among the 10 finalists for the Ford Frick Award, which is a short way to say “to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame as a broadcaster.” Wouldn’t it be great for Kiner to be a double Hall of Famer?

Let’s face it, Ralph Kiner was not your classic broadcaster. He misspoke just slightly less often than he gave the correct facts. But no one could tell a baseball story as well as he could and he made the broadcasts a whole lot of fun.

To show how popular Kiner remains less than a year after his death, he was one of three broadcasters placed on the ballot by the fans. Some stupid panel chose the other seven guys.

My guess it is unlikely that Ralph Kiner will be among the inductees. But it sure would be nice to see him join Lindsey Nelson and Bob Murphy in the broadcasters wing.
