Reports: Mets to Re-Sign Edwin Diaz
Multiple reports late Sunday afternoon say the Mets are re-signing Edwin Diaz to a record five-year, $102 million contract. It would be the first nine figure contract ever for a closer.
Bob Nightengale broke the news, which gave everyone pause. But then respected reporters actually confirmed it, so it is apparently true.
It has been quite the wild ride for Diaz in Flushing. He came here in one of the worst trades in franchise history and proceeded to stink up the joint. He has been elite since then, culminating with one of the greatest seasons ever for a Mets closer this year.
Diaz has really turned the tables from hated to beloved among the Mets faithful. That’s a very hard thing to do, and Diaz has certainly earned his payday.
