Mets Sign Capuano, Buchholz

mets_logoAdding to his off-season haul of crap, Sandy Alderson signed pitchers Chris Capuano and Taylor Buchholz on Monday. I won’t bore you with their recent stats — they are not good.

The New York Post writes of Capuano (and it could have been about Buchholz as well):

The 32-year-old fits the mold for what the Mets have been looking for since Alderson took over heading into 2011.

That would be cheap, crummy pitchers coming off of injuries. What a mold Alderson has formed.

To make room for one of these guys, the Mets had to release Ryota Igarashi. No great loss there. He was good early in the season, but he was never the same after coming back from injury.

While the Phillies went out and got Cliff Lee, the Nationals signed Jayson Werth and the Braves traded for Dan Uggla, the Mets have done nothing to improve their standing in the NL East. I’m all for patience and a long-term plan, but this is just pathetic.
