Life Without Jose Reyes? Not so Good

We are getting a look at what life would be like without Jose Reyes. It doesn’t look too good.

The Mets had a pretty good run without Reyes, winning five out of their first six. But then reality set in the past two games against the Giants. Without Reyes at the top of the lineup, the offense was unable to generate anything, managing just three runs in the two losses.

Of course, the Mets are also missing David Wright and Ike Davis, so the offense would definitely fare better without Reyes if those two sluggers were around. But even with them, Reyes is the catalyst.

Certainly Sandy Alderson understands this. All indications are that the Mets will go all-out to resign Reyes following the season. And that is a good thing.

Anyway, the Mets go into the All-Star game at 46-45, 7.5 games behind the Braves in the Wild Card race. That is a sizable deficit, but if the Mets get everybody back, they can still make a run. It should be a fun second half.
