Shaun Marcum Signs with Mets
Stop the presses, the Mets have reportedly signed a major league free agent, and he looks like a good one — Shaun Marcum.

Jon Heyman says Marcum will sign a one-year deal with the Mets, pending a physical. Financial terms have not yet leaked out, but Marcum made $7.75 million last season before being non-tendered by the Brewers. There was not much of a market for Marcum, so my guess is the Mets will pay him in the $4 million range.
The 31-year-old right hander was 7-4 with a 3.70 ERA in 21 starts in 2012, missing two months because of elbow tightness. Marcum won 13 games in each of the previous two seasons after missing a year with Tommy John surgery. Shaun Marcum has solid career numbers — 57-36 with a 3.76 ERA.
This could turn into a good signing provided Shaun Marcum is healthy. Congratulations to Sandy Alderson, who finally did something to make the team at least a little better.
