Mets End 1st Half with Loss to Cubs
So much for going into the All-Star break with momentum. The Cubs spanked the Mets on Sunday 7-0.
The Cubs jumped all over Jonathon Niese in the first. Reed Johnson and Starlin Castro both singled and Alfonso Soriano singled to drive in Johnson. Jeff Baker then doubled to score Castro to make it 2-0. Geovany Soto singled to drive in two more runs to extend the lead to 4-0.
Niese settled down after that, but in the seventh he allowed two singles and then Castro smashed a three-run home run to make it 7-0.
Niese lasted seven innings. His record falla to 7-4 after winning his last three starts.
Meantime the Mets couldn’t manage anything against four Cubs pitchers.
Mets lose 7-0. So the Mets now have four days to figure out how the lowly Cubs were able to take both series from them this season.
