David Wright Takes Lead in All-Star Vote
David Wright has taken the lead in the All-Star vote at third base, the first time he has lead in the voting this year.
Wright now leads Pablo Sandoval by about 130,000 votes with less than two weeks left to vote. Wright led the entire time last year until the final week when Sandoval overtook him.
There could be several factors for Wright’s surge — he is in the middle of one of his patented white-hot streaks and Sandoval is on the disabled list. Also, perhaps Mets fans are realizing how embarrassing it would be if Wright didn’t start the game at Citi Field.
Daniel Murphy remains fifth at second base and John Buck is third among catchers. They are far behind and will not catch up.
Matt Harvey will likely be considered to start the game, what with his latest superb outing on Sunday that saw him pitch six innings of shutout ball. Harvey is now 7-1 with a National League leading 121 strikeouts. His 2.05 ERA is second in the league.
