Jay Bruce to Disabled List
In the least shocking news of the year, the Mets placed Jay Bruce on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday evening.
The official cause is hip soreness, but Bruce has also missed time with a bum back. Bruce has been brutal at the plate this season, one of the bigger black holes in the lineup filled with them. He is batting just .212 on the season, with only three home runs and 17 RBIs. He hit his last long ball on May 7. That’s a very long time ago.
If the Mets have any hope of contending (this year or next), they need Bruce to be the player he was last season — not this guy, a repeat of when he was first acquired in 2016. Bruce still has two more years on his contract at $13 million per season, so he’d better get things in gear once he is healthy.
