Probable Final Check on Mets Payroll
Barring some unforeseen incident, this is probably the final check of the Mets payroll. The estimated salaries remaining will not change things very much once they are finalized.

Matt Harvey: $4.325,000 (actual)
Jacob deGrom: $600,000 (est)

Michael Conforto: $600,000 (est)
So now the actual salaries are $131,875,000. The estimates are $6,600,000, for a grand total Mets payroll of $138,475,000. This reflects Jeurys Familia’s healthy raise (going from $523,925 to $4.1 million in his first year of arbitration. I thought he would get closer to $2 million) and eliminating the permanently banned Jenrry Mejia’s $2.47 million salary.
Did anyone really think the Mets would get anywhere close to a $140 million payroll? Credit Sandy Alderson and the Wilpons for really going for it this year. I think someone convinced the Wilpons that if the Mets spent some real money and were in contention all year, the fans would come and more than make up for the hike in payroll. Let’s hope this happens because if it does not, we could go back to those sub-$100 million payrolls and we might have to wait another 15 years to see the Mets back in the World Series.
