IBWAA Names Buck Showalter, Brandon Hyde Top Managers
IBWAA awards week rolls on with the Managers of the Year. It’s our own Buck Showalter and Brandon Hyde of the Orioles.
Showalter turned the Mets around in his first season in Flushing, taking a losing, underperforming team to 101 wins (we’ll forget about the last week of the season and the postseason for now). He finished with 170 points. Dave Roberts of the Dodgers and the Cardinals Oliver Marmol were second and third with 124 and 108 points, respectively. I had Showwalter first (obviously), but went with Rob Thompson of the Phillies and Atlanta’s Brian Snitker second and third (what can I say — I’m an NL East guy!).
Over in the American League, Hyde did an even more extraordinary job, guiding the Orioles to an 83-79 record after losing 110 games the previous year. He received 203 points, besting Terry Francona of the Guardians (172 points) and the Mariners Scott Servais (133 points). I had all three, but flipped Servais and Francona for two and three.
