Video: Camera Day 1975

Younger Mets fans probably don’t know this, but back in the day, the Mets used to hold Camera Day. People would gather in the field level seats at Shea, and players would come out and pose for pictures. Could you imagine today’s players agreeing to do that? Here is some video from 1975, featuring Jerry Grote, Jerry Koosman, Tom Seaver, Felix Millan and his moustache, Rusty Staub, Dave Kingman and Wayne Garrett:

Video: Hitler Reacts to Mets 2008 Collapse

I love these Hitler parodies on YouTube. If you don’t know about them, they are taken from the German movie “Downfall”; only people have taken to subtitling them on all sorts of topics. You can spend hours watching them — they are simply hilarious. In this one, Hitler reacts to the Mets collapsing yet again in 2008.

Video: Take a Shower with Gary Carter

Here’s another Gary Carter commercial, this one for Ivory soap. Check out the extras playing his phony Mets teammates. Also, Carter certainly seems to love showering!

Video: Tom Seaver on “Mike Douglas Show”

Just a month after the Mets traded Tom Seaver to the Reds in 1977, Seaver appeared on the “The Mike Douglas Show” with his new teammate Pete Rose. With Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher sitting quietly, Seaver discussed the trade without getting into too much detail, unfortunately. My favorite part (in addition to Rose’s haircut) is when Douglas said, “Can you explain what a free agent is? The ladies I’m not sure understand that.” Ah, good old fashioned 70s sexism!  Also, I’d forgotten how boring Douglas’s dull delivery was:

Video: Castillo & Perez Chat

Have you ever wondered what it would look like if Luis Castillo and Oliver Perez were adorable animated characters and they had a conversation about who sucked more? I know I have. Well, my dream has come true:

Video: Awful Mets Ticket Promo

The Mets have put together a promo to encourage fans to become season ticket holders. Now, the Mets are co-owners of a television network staffed with professional writers, producers and directors. It appears the Mets didn’t want to bother them to make this promo, apparently scouring junior high schools for the least talented kids they could find. This is just awful, especially the editing. The only thing I’ll say about Sandy Alderson and Terry Collins is that they must be better baseball people than actors. Also, make sure to check out Alderson’s “To Do” list — it does not include acquiring any players. Good thing he is sticking to the plan:

Video: 1962 Recap

A recap of the Mets’ inaugural 1962 season. This is a really cool video — it is in color (faded a bit, but still), and has some really nice shots of the Polo Grounds. It’s an interesting comparison between the Polo Grounds and its short left field and Citi Field with its spacious outfield.

Video: Terry Collins Era Has Begun

Terry Collins was introduced Tuesday as the new manager of the New York Mets. He may not have been the first choice of Mets fans. Or the second. Or the third… Well, you get the point. But in any case, he is now the leader of the team, and we’ve got to get behind him. Here is his opening statement at his news conference:

Video: Construction of Good Old Shea

This is part of a promotional video for the Mets produced after the 1963 season. This section deals with the construction of the Mets new home for the following year, Shea Stadium. I don’t know about you, but now that it’s gone, I miss the crummy old place.

And 45 years later, here’s the giant scoreboard going down in just a matter of seconds:
