Mets Drop 3rd Straight to Nationals
The Nationals hit eight home runs in the first two games of the four-game series at Citi Field. They only hit one in game three, but it was enough to beat the Mets again.
Zack Wheeler and Dan Haren were engaged in a scoreless pitchers duel until the sixth inning when Ryan Zimmerman hit a solo home run into the Party City Deck to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.
Haren went six innings, allowing just one hit with one walk and eight strikeouts.
Zack Wheeler lasted through the seventh inning, allowing that one run on eight hits. He struck out six Nationals, and after walking five runners in his last start, he walked just one tonight. He also showed poise, pitching out of several jams.
Vic Black could not get out of a jam in the eighth. With runners on first and third with two outs, Anthony Rendon doubled to left-center to score two as the Nationals extended the lead to 3-0.
That was the final score. The Mets will attempt to salvage the final game of the series in a matinée Thursday.
