Mets to Call Up Eric Campbell

The Mets announced that Eric Campbell would be recalled from Las Vegas and would join the team in time for Saturday night’s game against the Phillies. He will likely get the start at first base.

The 27-year-old Campbell has been floating around the Mets minor league system since he was drafted in the eighth round in 2008. He really didn’t distinguish himself until having a strong Spring Training this year. He was among the final cuts.

He has continued his solid hitting, batting .355 with three home runs and 24 RBIs in Vegas this season. Eric Campbell is primarily a first baseman/third baseman/corner outfielder, but he has dabbled at second base this season.

The Mets have not yet announced a corresponding move, but it is likely that Josh Satin will be sent down. Satin is hitting a miserable .107 with just three hits in 28 at bats. He went 0-5 Friday night while starting for a food poisoned Lucas Duda. Duda is still not at full strength, so Eric Campbell should be making his major league debut Saturday.
