Ruben Tejada Back, Frank Francisco to DL
The Mets made some roster moves prior to Sunday night’s game against the Yankees. Ruben Tejada and Ramon Ramirez have been activated from the disabled list.
To make room, Jordany Valdespin was demoted to the minors and Frank Francisco has been placed on the DL with a left oblique strain. These oblique strains often take several weeks to heal, so we may not see Francisco for a while. This will put either Jon Rauch or Bobby Parnell in the closer role. Let’s hope for Parnell. It will be good to see if he can handle the job.
Valdespin has played well enough, especially of late, to remain on the team. But it is a numbers crunch right now, and he will certainly be back at some point.
Getting Tejeda back is crucial. In addition to his surprising hitting, the Mets really need his defense at shortstop. His fill-ins have been less than sure things when a ground ball heads their way, to put it nicely. Hopefully he can solidify things up the middle.
