Mets Lose Aaron Loup to Angels, Too

Fresh on the heels of Noah Syndergaard leaving Flushing for the sunshine of Anaheim, the Mets Monday also lost reliever Aaron Loup to the Angels.

The deal is for two years, $17 million. He will get $7.5 million salaries, then a $2 million buyout if the Angels don’t pick up his $7.5 million option for a third season.

Loup was superb for the Mets in 2021, going 6-0 with a measly 0.95 ERA. His left arm will be a tough one to replace in the bullpen.

It is unclear if the Mets made an offer to Loup, or if Loup even went back to the Mets to see if they would match. Or perhaps the Mets treated Loup the same way as Syndergaard — silence, apparently. But one thing is becoming clear — no one wants to play for this dysfunctional team.
