Mets Beat Phillies in NLDS
The Mets are on their way to the National League Championship Series after beating the Phillies three games to one in the NL Division Series. Did anyone think they would be reading that sentence just a few short months ago?
Francisco Lindor was the hero this time around, hitting a grand slam to account for all of the Mets runs in a 4-1 win. Edwin Diaz made things interesting and terrifying by walking the first two batters he faced in the ninth inning before sending the Phillies back to Philadelphia.
This is nothing short of amazing (no pun intended). The Mets looked awful for the first half of the season with no turnaround in sight. Yet somehow all the pieces came together and they made the playoffs on the last of their extended season. Then it looked like they would not escape the Wild Card round, but Pete Alonso hit his signature Mets home run to pull victory out of the mouth of defeat. Then a couple of instant classics in Philly, and here we are.
The Mets will now face the Dodgers or the Padres for the right to advance to the World Series. Whichever team they face will be tough. But we said that about the Brewers and Phillies, and how did that work out?
