Makeshift Lineup? No Problem, Mets Win

The following was the starting lineup for the Mets in their Memorial Day game with the Pirates:

1-Willie Harris, 3B
2-Justin Turner, 2B
3-Carlos Beltran, RF
4-Daniel Murphy, 1B
5-Angel Pagan, CF
6-Josh Thole, C
7-Jason Pridie, LF
8-Ruben Tejada, SS
9-Dillon Gee, P

And guess what? They won! It helps that they were playing the woeful Pirates, but the Mets were able to win a game with Harris leading off, Murphy (below) cleaning up and Pagan batting fifth. And not only did they win, they rapped out 15 hits, scoring seven runs. Talk about amazing!

Pirates Mets Baseball

Bay had the night off, and Jose Reyes is lost to the team for three to seven days to fly back to the Dominican Republic to attend the funeral of his grandmother. Of course family concerns trump baseball, but Reyes was in such a groove — I hope this doesn’t have an adverse effect on his play.

Murphy had his second straight three-hit game and has raised his average 40 points over the past ten games. Turner continues to amaze — he is now batting .337 and has RBIs in six straight games. And Gee upped his record to 5-0.

This makeshift squad is looking pretty good — let’s hope they can keep it up until the regulars come back.
