Lucas Duda Returns on Sunday

The Mets announced on Twitter Saturday that Lucas Duda will be recalled from Buffalo Sunday. The corresponding move will be made before the rubber game with the Astros.

I can’t imagine what the corresponding move is going to be. Maybe Mike Baxter or Jordany Valdespin will be sent down to the minors until September 1. Neither demotion would be fair. Perhaps they are trading Scott Hairston. Or maybe Sandy Alderson has finally heard the fans and will release Jason Bay. That’s not happening.

If I had to guess, I would say Andres Torres is going to be released or traded for a bag of balls. He’s been among the biggest disappointments for the Mets this season. He is hitting just .233 and the alleged speedster only has 10 stolen bases. Torres is clearly going to be non-tendered after the season; why keep giving him at-bats?

In any case, it will be nice to have Duda back. The offense has been horrid lately — hopefully he can help. At the very least, a strong September could increase his trade value.
