Mets May Have Salvaged Season with Win Over Rockies

The Mets season has new life, thanks to a thrilling come-from-behind victory over the Rockies Sunday. Let’s hope the Mets can keep things going against the white flag-waving Yankees over the next four days.

Neil Walker may have salvaged Mets season with homer on Sunday

When the Rockies took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh, even the most ardent Mets fan assumed the game was over — they would be swept by the Rockies and lose their fifth in a row. But then Neil Walker came through with perhaps the biggest hit of the season for the Mets, a three-run homer to win the game. Jeurys Familia, coming off two devastating blown saves, come on in the ninth and literally saved the Mets season.

The Mets are now two and a half games behind the Marlins for the second Wild Card spot, also trailing the Cardinals by a game and a half. A loss would have put them even further behind, not to mention the psychological impact of extending the losing streak.

Monday will be a huge day for the Mets off the field, as the trading deadline is 4pm and we will find out if reinforcements are on the way. The Mets will need help if they hope to make a playoff push; the current roster just won’t get it done. Unless, of course, they have some more late-inning magic in their bats.
