Mets Fire Dan Warthen, Ray Ramirez

The Mets announced Tuesday morning on their official blog (who knew they had such a thing?) that they have fired Dan Warthen and Ray Ramirez.

Warthen had been the Mets pitching coach since 2008. But with the team ERA finishing 2017 at 5.01, the Mets had seen enough.

Ramirez was the head trainer and the target of boos every time he walked out of the dugout to escort yet another injured player off the field. He had been in the job since 2005.

The Mets also announced Terry Collins has accepted a position as Special Assistant to the General Manager. Hitting coach Kevin Long, assistant hitting coach Pat Roessler and third base coach Glenn Sherlock will be retained, while bench coach Dick Scott, first base coach Tom Goodwin and bullpen coach Ricky Bones have been given permission to speak to other teams.

Thus the Mets shakeup has begun.
