Mets Trade Matt Harvey to Reds for Devin Mesoraco
The Mets on Tuesday were able to turn the DFAed Matt Harvey into a potential starting catcher. Good work, Sandy Alderson.
Harvey was traded to the Reds for Devin Mesoraco. The Mets will pick up the rest of Harvey’s $5.625 salary, while the Reds will continue paying Mesoraco’s whopping $13.125 million payday.
Mesoraco was a budding star, and an actual All-Star, in 2014 when he hit .273 with 25 homers and 80 RBIs. Since then he has failed to stay healthy, playing in just 95 games over the following three seasons. He has appeared in 18 games this season. If he can get healthy, he can potentially be the catcher the Mets truly need.
To clear space on the roster, the Mets placed Todd Frazier on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring.
