Mets Win 4th in Row

Which is the hottest team in baseball right now? None other than our own New York Mets. The Mets are now winners of four in a row following Wednesday night’s 5-3 victory over the Dodgers.

The Mets are now a season-high three games over .500. They are still 6.5 games back in the Wild Card chase, but now there are just three teams between them and the Braves (including the Pirates, with which the Mets are tied). The Mets have leapfrogged over a couple of teams over the past week or so.

And all of this without Jose Reyes (not to mention Ike Davis and David Wright).

Wednesday’s game featured solid pitching by Jonathon Niese (above, arguing a blown call by the umpires in the sixth that would eventually lead to the Dodgers’ third run)– six strikeouts, one walk, three runs in seven innings to up his record to 8-7. Offensively, Justin Turner, Carlos Beltran, Lucas Duda and Josh Thole each had two hits, and Ruben Tejada had two RBIs.

Look at some of those names. Did anybody think the Mets would be three games over .500 with those guys getting the bulk of the playing time? Pretty amazing.
