Jacob deGrom 1-Hits Phillies in 1st Career Shutout
Jacob deGrom pitched the first shutout and complete game of his career Sunday, dominating the Phillies on a one-hitter.
Juan Lagares tripled home a run in the second inning to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.
Curtis Granderson made it 2-0 in the third with a solo home run, his 16th homer of the season.
deGrom singled with two outs in the fifth and came home on a Jose Reyes double to make it a 3-0 game.
Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two-run home run in the eighth to give the Mets a 5-0 cushion. All of the Mets runs came with two outs, by the way.
But the story of the game was Jacob deGrom. He allowed a single to opposing pitcher Zach Elfin with two outs in the third. It turned out to be the only hit he would surrender. The only other baserunner was a leadoff walk in the eighth. He also struck out seven batters. deGrom lowered his ERA to 2.38, third best in the National League.
Mets win 5-0.
