Latest R.A. Dickey Update
So it appears that R.A. Dickey will not be traded on Friday as earlier reported, but it does seem as though a deal could happen over the weekend, and that it will be with the Blue Jays.
Most reports say the Rangers and Angels are out of it, and that while the Orioles might still be in, it is Toronto which is the leader for Dickey’s services. The latest reports say that prized catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud will wind up on the Mets.
Earlier Friday is seemed as though any deal would start with J.P. Arencibia, another catcher with far less upside than d’Arnaud. But now sources are calling d”Arnaud a “must have” for the Mets if they were to part with Dickey, and that the Jays are ready to include him.
D’Arnaud was rated the 17th top prospect in all of baseball prior to the 2012 season. He responded with 16 home runs and a .333 batting average in Triple-A.
The Mets could also get Anthony Gose in the prospective deal, a center fielder who was the 39th rated prospect before last season. He hit .286 with 34 stolen bases in Triple-A, a year after hitting 16 homers and stealing 70 bases in Double-A.
This would be a good deal for the Mets. They would get two young, promising starters for a 38-year-old pitcher. Yes, it would be sad not to see R.A. Dickey in a Mets uniform after his inspiring 2012 season, but the team would eventually be better for it.
