Brewers GM: Interested in Mets Ike Davis, Lucas Duda
Since Mets GM Sandy Alderson never says anything concrete, we have to go to the general managers of other teams to get Mets news. The GM of the Brewers said he has an interest in the Mets infamous “glut” of first basemen.
“They’ve indicated that they have extra first basemen, and we have a need,” Doug Melvin told MLB.com. “Again, it’s all about keeping your options open… Nothing imminent, and I don’t anticipate anything imminent. But first base is one of our needs, they have excess first basemen, so you can tie two and two together — and come up with three.”
Melvin admitted that he spoke to Alderson during the GM Meetings last week, but he said, “Well, you talk to everybody down here.”
The Mets would likely want an outfielder in return, and reports have linked them to Norichika Aoki, a soon-to-be 32-year-old low power, high on-base percentage guy who seems to fit Alderson’s mold of the perfect baseball player.
Whether or not anything will happen is purely speculation at this point. According to recent reports, the Mets still aren’t sure whether to trade Davis or Duda, so trying to guess whom they might get in return should wait until that decision is made.
