Maher was at Citi Field on Sunday, where he and Jeff Wilpon confirmed that Maher bought at least one of the shares of the team that were for sale this past winter.

“I think it’s a great investment,” Maher said. “I think it’s a great team that I’ve been rooting for since they came into existence, which was soon after I came into existence.”

The Mets have said that they sold 12 shares for $20 million each. Each share is worth 4% of the team. Maher is the only person who has been identified as a buyer, aside from the Mets cable-TV partners.

  • Great. Another jack ass of an owner. Joan Payson is spinning in her grave.

  • This is tragic. Maher is a polarizing figure. A misogynist. A rabble rouser, and is not the kind of classy owners (with deep pockets) the Mets need. Still Need Wilpons to sell the team.
Then modify the Rotunda to accomodate Robinson/Dodgers on one side Mays/Giants on the other (center aisle open) leading into a large METS ROTUNDA showing the history of NL Baseball without the excessive focus on Dodgers’ history noted above.
Must be desperate to include Maher. Don’t decent people have money?
